Transport Management and Planning
Transportation is a key part of the supply chain and often occupies a large part of the time goods move from source to customer.
Inbound transport ensure goods get from the local supplier or the port (from overseas suppliers) in the fastest, most cost-effective manner so that the goods can be made available for sale faster.
Outbound transport could be shipping to secondary warehouses or distributers or delivery to the customer.
Planning must account for:
- The right vehicle, due to size constraints and cost
- Right timing – when will the customer accept delivery
- Constraints on the road – from traffic, roadworks, truck bans and driver hours limits

Forecast and Demand Planning
Every business needs to ensure it has the right product in the right place at the right time to meet the customer demand. If they don’t meet those 3 R’s there are cumulative consequences, which if unaddressed, can bring down the largest enterprises.
Since we can’t see the future, we have to make a prediction as to what products will sell and where. This can come from the sales team, the marketing team, our distributors. It may be based around historical sales but needs to factor in promotional activities, new product launches (and end-of-life), new stores, new channels, seasonal variations and other factors. We have tools to assist in generating these forecasts, which are based on statistical analysis of sales history. The addition of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly improving the accuracy of forecasting tools.
